Samdech Techo Hun Sen Met Sudanese President’s Special Envoy Sudanese President’s special envoy arrived in Cambodia to appreciate Cambodian government for sending forces to defuse bombs in Sudan and also stated about the improvement of cooperation with Cambodia in agriculture and investment. During the meeting with Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padie Techo Hun Sen on March 11, Ali Ahmet Karti Mohamad, Sudanese Foreign Minister and President’s special envoy, admired Cambodia after going through bitter experience in the past and Samdech Hun Sen’s leadership in facing obstacles to bring Cambodia with peace, stability and development including sending forces to defuse bombs in Sudan. Mohamad said Sudanese leaders expressed their thankfulness to Cambodian government and showed the aim at bilateral ties in investment and agriculture factor. Military Police Cracked Down on 12 Game Shops in Battambang Province 85 military police forces led by deputy prosecutor and deputy military police commander of Battambang province on March 9, operated the first biggest cracking down on 12 game shops in Battambang city, seizing 38 game machines, 260 game materials, 22035 game coins, 4 DVD players, 14 motorcycles and 21 bike cycles and detain 59 students. People at Tomnup Rolok Market, Sihanuk Province Asked Local Authority and Garbage Collecting Company to Take Away Garbage Regularly People, sellers, including officials at Tomnup Rolok market, Sihanuk province had asked garbage collecting company and local authority, who are responsible for collecting garbage, to take away garbage from this market regularly while garbage has been collected only once for 2 or 3 days. This request came as authority and garbage collecting company does not have proper location for storing garbage before it would be taken away by truck. People have put garbage along the street in front of Tomnup Rolok market. There is no immediate comment from Cintri Company in Sihanuk province about their slowly collecting garbage. Now, garbage in Sihanuk province is at least 100 tones per day, and garbage collecting company seems to be lacking of means and transportations to collect garbage regularly. An Official from Thai Embassy Was Allowed to Visit a Thai Man Convicted to 20Years in Jail An official from Thai embassy was allowed to visit a Thai man, Suphap Wongpanna, who was convicted to 20 years in jail for laying landmines in Cambodia. Chhum Socheat, spokesman for the Cambodian Ministry of Defense told CTN on February 18, that Cambodia accepted a request allowing Thai embassy official to visit Suphap Wongpanna. “An official from Thai embassy will visit Suphap Wongpanna at 2 o’clock tomorrow,” said General Chhum Socheat. Suphap Wongpanna, 39, was convicted by Military Court last week to 20 year in jail for act of terrorism laying landmines in Odor Meanchey province, an area along Cambodia-Thai border to kill people and destroy national security and stability in Cambodia. Samdech Techo Hun Sen met with Eric Stark Maskin, Nobel Prize Winner in Economics and Economist of Princeton University, United States on January 21, on his visit Cambodia to attend Debate Bridge for Culture and Peace and to attend the 6th Asian Economic Forum. Samdech Techo told Professor Eric about the situation of Cambodia and pointed out how global economic crisis affected Cambodia such as garment sector, tourist sector and foreign investment. Samdech Techo Hun Sen Sent a Letter of Condolence to Haitian Prime Minister Samdech Akak Moha Sena Badey Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Kingdom of Cambodia, considered the earth quake in Haiti as a mass devastating disaster, and he expressed his grief at this disaster.
“On behalf of Cambodian government and people, I would like to offer my condolence to Excellency, Haitians and especially victims and their families in this disaster,” said Samdech Techo Hun Sen in the letter of condolence dated on January 14 to Excellency Jean Max Bellerive, Haitian Prime Minister.
The earth quake in this Caribbean nation killed thousands of people, and homes of millions of people had been destroyed. About 48 hours ago, rescuers found up to 50 thousands bodies, and Red Cross estimated that wounded people had increased to more than 3 millions.
International Community has been sending emergency aids to Haiti. 162 Pieces of Superior Logs Were Seize by Authorities 162 pieces of superior logs kept in a stock were seized by authority and brought to Ratanakiri Forestry Administrator’s compound on January 16. The seized of these superior logs had been made after Tuochroek community in Ta Ong Commune, Koun Mom District, Ratanakiri province complained to deputy multi committee of Ratanakiri province about this case.
“Those, who dare smuggle these superior logs, are actually powerful men,” said village chief. “To people in the village, he firmly prohibited them from smuggling logs; moreover, logging for building school in the community are certainly limited,” he added.

On January 7, 2010, Cambodia People’s Party celebrated the 31st anniversary of 7 January, the day that Cambodians were rescued and freed from massacre of Khmere Rouge’s regime.
More than ten thousands of people had attended this ceremony. Cambodia People’s Party leaders such as Samdech Thamak Pothiksal Chea Sim, Samdech Punhea Chakrey Heng Samrin, Samdech Techor Hun Sen and other dignitaries also attended this ceremony including ambassadors in Cambodia and US congressmen as well.
During the ceremony, Samdech Thamak Pothiksal Chea Sim, President of Cambodia People’s Party, pompously declared again that Cambodia People’s Party has continued supporting Samdech Techor Hun Sen as the Prime Minister nominee for the next mandates.

Ministry of Planning Is Pushing Forward the Classification of the National Industrial Standard
Ministry of Planning, Malaysian officials and Japanese officials are pushing forward the classification of the National Industrial Standard. On January 08, 2010, Ministry of Planning in cooperation with Eurea organization had prepared a seminar on the classification of the National Industrial Standard by inviting stakeholders to exchange their experiences and concepts over this topic, which will be used as the national framework to compare in the region and also in the world.
According to statistic law, National Institute of Statistic must define the national statistic standard related to the classification, concept and other definitions, and the Statistic Coordinated Committee has to help the National Institute of Statistic in the related tasks; furthermore, it has to announce and apply the classification and statistic standard related to the official statistics, Planning Secretary Excellency Ett Saroeun said.
He also hopped that in cooperation with experts of Eurea Organization, the enhancement of national statistic system and the preparation for the classification of national industrial standard will soon be finished.
Vietnamese Supreme Court Pledge to Help Develop

Vietnamese Supreme Court pledged to help develop human resource of Cambodian Supreme Court and shared experiences and law documents.
In the meeting with Cambodian Prime Minster Hun Sen at National Assembly palace on December 29, 2009, Mr. Chung Hav Benh, Chief of Vietnamese Supreme Court, said both countries’ Supreme Court institutions had already signed the cooperative agreement. The cooperative agreement would mainly focus on the development of human resource and sharing the experiences and documents in order to strengthen cooperation of law between the two countries. Mr. Chung Hav Benh emphasised that this is a historical circumstance for the higher institutions of both countries, and he also showed his regret for gradual process to increase cooperation.
Prime Minister Hun Sen welcomed for the cooperation between the two countries’ higher institutions. Even if there was gradual process of cooperation, it’s better than no cooperation at all, Prime Minister Hun Sen said. He also urged the Supreme Courts of both countries to discuss on how to strengthen cooperation.

575th Anniversary of Phnom Penh
Phnom Penh municipal hall celebrated the 575th anniversary of the birth of Phnom Penh Capital on December 31, 2009 with the memorial of history and development almost 6 centuries. Based on historical document, Phnom Penh is one of Cambodia’s main capitals, which was built following up a hill called Phnom Penh, currently known as Wat Phnom, located at west of Chaktokmuk river. It is the ancestor place of Doun Penh, who was the founder to build this place at 1372. From that time on, Phnom Penh had been developed and became the Capital at 1434 in the era of King Borom Reachea Chao Punhea Yat.
During the period of 575 years, Phnom Penh municipal has been connected closely to the history in the prosperous time, bitter time, and especially the time when it was ravaged by war; moreover, Phnom Penh was completely devastated in the regime of Democratic Cambodia and was considered as ghost city. After January 07, 1979, Phnom Penh has been rebuilt and developed continuously such as infrastructures, buildings, resorts, gardens…etc., Phnom Penh Governor Excellency Kep Chutema said.
