Vorn Viva ISKA (International Sport Kickboxing Association) Middleweight (74kg) Kun Khmer World Champion. 2007 68kg (Welterweight) Cambodian National Champion Age: 24 Height: 180cm Weight: 74kg Official record: 29 fights. 25 wins, 0 draws, 4 losses. 8 wins by knockout. Club: Preah Khan Reach Trainer: Treung Sossay Hometown: Prey Chhor District, Kampong Cham Built like the sugar palms that cover the Kampong Cham plain, Vorn Viva is the same height as Cambodia’s most-famous boxer, Koh Kong native Ei Phouthang, and he’s following in Ei’s footsteps, carving a reputation for invincibility and the ease with which he destroys foreigners in the boxing ring. Viva came to national prominence when he defeated Ministry of Defence Boxing Association fighter Meas “the Dragon” Chantha during the final of the 68kg (welterweight) division at the 2007 Nationals. The Dragon would avenge this loss by taking Englishman Frankie Hudders’ ISKA Welterweight title the same night Vorn Viva became middleweight world champion. Viva followed that performance with a second-round TKO of Australian Ben Mountford in Phnom Penh and then a third-round TKO of New Zealander Steve Donaldson before taking the ISKA world title of German boxer Alban Ahmedi in a unanimous points decision in the Olympic Stadium. In 2009, also following in Ei Phouthang’s footsteps, Vorn Viva was the co-host and assistant trainer of Cambodia’s toughest reality series, Kun Khmer Champion, during its second season, a position he holds in the third season in 2010. At the first international tournament of the year, in Bavet, Vorn Viva defeated The Contender: Asia’s Dominik “Akuma” Zidov in a unanimous points decision. After five rounds of boxing in which Zidov worked hard to avoid Vorn Viva’s fearsome elbows, the Swiss boxer said that when he hit Viva with an elbow all that happened was he hurt his elbow! Kun Khmer Champion 3 is now on CTN. |
